Coal Delivery on the Estates

About this memory

Another familiar sight in the 1950 and 60s was the Coalman.

This photo is from around 1980

Coal was carried on shoulders and tipped into the Coal Sheds.

After the Clean Air Act of 1957 this was usually Coke or shaped lumps of compressed coal dust called Briquettes or Ovals.
