Boer War Medal Presented By The Town Council And Citizens Of Leith For Service In The South African War 1902

About this memory

This medal was awarded to Sir Malcolm Smith (1856 - 1935) who was Provost of Leith from 1908 to 1917. Sir Malcom did not see active service in the Boer War - it is more likely he was awarded the medal for his support in provisioning the soldiers (he was, at the time, managing director of one of the largest fish processing companies in the UK).
