Greenland Mill 1880s

About this memory

Gideon Walker was the miller. By day the mill ground grain for animal feed, by night 'wood flour' (sawdust) for industrial purposes - mainly linoleum.

The river was dammed at Dean Village to make a lade (water channel) that powered Lyndsay's Mill, then Marr's Mill, Greenland Mill, Stockbridge Mill, Silvermills, Canonmills, Logie Green Mill, then on to Powerderhall Mill, before going back into the river at Bonnington.
