Tradition Of Dressing Up To Cross The Equator 1940s

About this memory

Ernest Mobbs (back row, third right).

"Dad [dressed as] 'Colonel Chinstrap'. No doubt the main brace was spliced. That expression conjures up some kind of rope-fixing, but no, it meant [to] break out the rum, for a tot each. Special occasions and toasts, etc. No doubt they all went crazy on their bosun's whistles!" - Evelyn Muir (née Mobbs)
