Duncan Campbell, Anne Shaw's father

1944

About this memory

When war broke out Duncan Campbell, Anne Shaw's father, joined the Kedah Volunteer Force, along with other planters and civil servants. Her mother, with Anne and her sister, managed to get to Singapore and onto a ship carrying evacuees just before the fall of Singapore. Anne's father was eventually captured by the Japanese who by this time had invaded the Malayan peninsula. He was interned in Changi POW Camp.
