Stuart Laidlaw and Goldie at the back of 11 Calder Drive

August 1953

About this memory

This picture shows the Anderson type Coal sheds behind the prefabs.
Ours was situated just outside the side door as we were the corner house.

Every house had a front garden for grass and flowers etc, and a rear garden with room to grow fruit and veg.

There was also room for a drying area for hanging out Washing.

All the gardens were fenced off with either wooden stake fencing or fences which were made of lengths of piping. We had both.

Living on a corner also meant we had a extra bit of garden on the front which my Dad called the Ponderosa and which seemed to contain rubble instead of soil.
