How did I manage to become a Legget? My Mother Helen Marjory Stewart Legget was the Daughter of Robert Sommerville Legget 1888 - 1963, Wool Merchant and Part Owner of the Dean Village Tannery.

About this scrapbook

Grandpa Legget was born in the family home of Deanhaugh Cottage, just beside the Water of Leith and immediately upstream from the Iron Bridge and the Ford in Damside.

My Grandfather was married to my Grandmother Ethel and they also had a Son called Tom who in later years, took over the running of the Tannery Business.

For their Schooling my Mother Helen attended The Mary Erskine Edinburgh Ladies College and Tom attended Daniel Stewarts College. My Mother married George de Vinchelez Le Sueur in Edinburgh in January 1937.

My Brother Robert was born in 1938 and I was born in 1939 and we all lived with Grandpa & Grandma at 8 Blinkbonny Crescent, Blackhall, Edinburgh.

My Father George had previously joined the Royal Air Force in 1934 as a Flying Officer and was stationed in Abu Sueir in Egypt in 1937 testing Gloster Gladiator Planes that were required for the oncoming Second World War.

Sadly my Father was killed in a Flying Accident in 1939 and was buried in Egypt.

My Descendants as shown on the Legget Family Tree 1784 - 2014.
