Hi I'm an artist. I'm 51 and love history and genealogy amongst other things.
First generation New Zealander, born to a 'daughter of Edinburgh' - a very PROUD 'daughter of Edinburgh', I might add. I grew up on the other side of the world, and learned many of the fabulous Scottish traditions, and tales of old Edinburgh from my Mother. She missed her homeland and home city greatly over the years since she moved here. Sadly she died in 2014, along with my Father earlier the same year, so I'm keen to find any photographic 'gems' that may expand on her life there. She also had two half brothers Alex and George Bull, a full brother David MacKay, and a half sister Lily McAlpine MacKay (not a daughter of David Kyles MacKay, but born after my Grandparents split up, but retaining the MacKay name).
My key interests include Carnegie Street; Crawfords; James Clark Primary School; Jenner's Department Store; Nelson's Printing Works; Palais De Danse in Fountainbridge. I'm especially interested in the timeframe of 1879 to 1952 which would have been the kind of timeframe when my Grandparents and later my Mother lived in the city. Also seeking to find any family or friends of my late Grandfather, Mr David Kyles MacKay, a baker I believe of Leonard Street around the period of 1925 - 1960-ish. I have never seen my Grandfather as there are no photos of him, after a messy marriage break up between he and my Grandmother (my Grandmother got rid of all photos of him and my Mother only had limited memories of him to share), so my holy grail is to find anyone who might have a photo, or better - photos of him, and his other family/s and/or to make contact with them. I know he had at least one other marriage aside from the one to my Grandmother.
Looking forward to seeing other's scrapbooks of Edinburgh!
